When we were ready to build at ER, we interviewed many builders but none quite fit our needs. Then we saw a sign for a builder that we hadn’t met yet. Not only did we find the perfect company, McCarrie Custom Homes, but also we found the perfect builder, John McCarrie. Our first meeting was at a home he was in the process of building. We had built our present home ourselves years ago and we knew we needed someone whose attention to detail would match ours. We were very impressed with what we saw in this first house and we enjoyed talking to John.

We went to see more homes that John built and then gave John all the pertinent information and he promised us a bid within two weeks. We were pleasantly surprised when his bid came in early and the price was what we were hoping to pay. He also gave us a variety of options for upgrading which were easy to understand.

And so our building journey began. We knew that obtaining all the required permits could be a problem but because John knew how to deal with Hazleton and ER, everything went smoothly. We have met many other homeowners at ER whose homes took well over a year to build. When John told us he would be done in less than six months we were skeptical. Four and one-half months later, our house was finished. We were there day after day to watch and check that we were getting the home we wanted. The jobsite was always clean, with no trash or debris left at the end of the day. We found very dedicated workers who were building our house as if it was their own. The individual sub-contractors were a surprise. They were all very nice and helpful. You could see that they really cared and took pride in their work. We purchased many of the items for the house ourselves which John installed. Also, John suggested various merchants who were very helpful. All the companies that he used had excellent, quality products.

John’s foresight on the job was amazing. He is obviously a very gifted person in this field. By the time our house was finished, half the landscaping had already been completed in the form of the beautiful rock walls that he had imagined then created, as he went along. He constantly made suggestions that would improve either the look or the layout of our home. For half a year we talked to John and Caren almost every day. They were never too busy. They never complained. In the end, we had our dream home that was built to our exact specifications. It has been over a year now and we still comment on how lucky we were to find John and Caren.

Unlike previous nightmarish experiences with building a home, working with John and Caren was a very pleasant and wonderful experience. During the building process, we were constantly kept up to date with each process.
